These votes will be submitted along with other Missouri schools for a final title winner. Visit www.maslonline.org for more information about these programs, as well as the current list of titles.
Battle of the Books
The Battle of the Books is a voluntary program that kicks off in September when students begin to read at least 6 of the 12 titles that are the current Mark Twain or Truman Award nominees for 2008-09. From September through March, students listen to or read from the list, with a goal of reading all 6 titles. When the students complete a title, they are tested on our computer generated Reading Counts program.
At the beginning of April, a qualifying test is given to determine which students will qualify for the school battle. Teams of 4-5 students will be formed to compete in the school battle, which will be held during National Library Week, April 12-18.
Scholastic Reading Counts
Scholastic Reading Counts is a literature-based reading motivation and management program that is designed to get students to read and to help educators manage and monitor their students’ reading.
Once, a student completes a book at their reading level, they are asked to take a quiz in the computer lab or his/her classroom. Students earn points at the completion of these quizzes.
